Long Range Criticals
Hard Vacuum tester and LA conventioneer Eric Gerber is unhappy with the fact that at long range (i.e., the range at which a weapon rolls a single die to hit) most successful hits are also critical ones. This is an artifact of the critical hit system combining with the open-ended "5" die system -- in order to hit something with an adjusted Silhouette of 10 or greater, you need to roll a 5 on both the first die and at least one add-die. Eric suggests two fixes for those equally bothered by this effect:
- Weapons cannot cause critical hits if they only roll one die to hit, regardless of how many add-dice are added on.
- Double "5" results do not count for critical hits.
Eric notes that he likes the first solution better then the second.
